About

ebleeker-80

I’m a mom of four, an author and Chicagoland native. My first novel, WRECKAGE, was released by Lake Union Publishing March 2015. My second book, WHEN I’M GONE, hit shelves March 2016 and is a Wall Street Journal bestseller. My third book, WORKING FIRE, met the world as an Amazon bestseller in August 2017. THE WAITING ROOM is coming in just a few months (August 28, 2018) and I can’t wait! I love all my book babies!  I’m learning to balance life as a stay-at-home mom with my life as a writer. Both come with a lot of laughter, tears and a shocking amount of Diet Coke.

  2. I absolutely loved the book. The development of the characters and the twists and turns of the storyline. My favorite was the reporter who thought she knew what was going on but was way off. Good luck with your new book. I am looking forward to reading it.

  3. Just finished When I’m Gone. What a wonderfully sad but complex story. Fantastic characters throughout, couldn’t put it down.

  4. I think you could be the next Nicholas Sparks. I have read both of your books and truly loved them. Congrats on such wonderful pieces of work!

  7. I’m looking forward to leading my book club discussion on Wreckage tonight. I just saw the opportunity to connect with you as I prepared my notes last night. I certainly feel better about always carrying a sewing kit when I travel and usually have a water bottle. If you have any suggestions for our discussion I will certainly appreciate them. If not, we will look forward to reading more of your books.

  8. I just finished When I’m Gone, I usually don’t write to authors but this book moved me. Having experienced losing a spouse the feelings described in the book are very real. The ups and downs, the anger and guilt, I know are classic grief patterns; but when you go through them you feel like you are the first and you are alone. Your portrayal of Luke is on the nose. Hope you continue with many more good stories that keep the characters real and the stories really intriguing.

  9. When I’m Gone was such a beautiful story! I couldn’t put my kindle/phone down. I’m really excited to start Wreckage. Keep up the excellent work!

  10. Emily, I just finished When I’m Gone and immediately texted my sister to tell her to read it. I found the characters and story SO compelling. Thank you for a wonderful, moving read.

  12. Hi Emily. I just got a post from Amazon re: “When I’m Gone.” I read the storyline then read the reviews and. Intrigued, I went to your website and read some more reviews which convinced me to order the book from Amazon. So, I’m looking forward to a fascinating read. I’ll let you know how the book hits me.

Glad to hear that you recovered from your battle with cancer. I have a niece who has been cancer free for ten years now. We are so blessed to have her and her 2 healthy boys and love them all dearly. I’m sure your family feels blessed to have you with them, too.

    God bless you and yours.

  13. Loved When I’m Gone. Haven’t cried at the end of a book in a long time. Truly hope that you’re considering a follow up book. Great writing!

  14. I just bought Working Fire on Amazon, and I am really looking forward to reading it. My brother sent me the synopsis and thought I might be interested. You see… I actually live in Broadlands, Illinois. I’m interested to see how well you capture our little town in the middle of nowhere. Good Luck!

  15. Loved when I’m Gone. I m not a very good reader but i couldn’t stop reading this book. Annie was my fav character in the book. I wish i get to know more about her 😦 Thank you for a wonderful read.

  16. Just starting when I am gone. Read you are from Chicagoland area. My mom was friends with a gal from Holy Redeemer parish on south side. Might you be related?

  17. Loved “When I’m Gone” . Did you ever live in Michigan? I was surprised to see a setting and many references to the area where I live. I am definitely looking forward to reading your other books.

  18. Hello Emily. You’re book, “When I’m Gone”, popped up on my Kindle as a you might be interested in book. I absolutely loved it, could barely but it down. I was surprised to see that Natalie had Ewing’s sarcoma, as my son just finished his treatment for Ewing’s 3 months ago. Not a cancer you hear about often. I am so excited to hear more for your books. I like so many others would love a book two.

  19. I just started the French release of when I am gone. Feeling in a wow mental and emotional mode. The French release is as wow as the original. I just discovered an author for who I fell in love with (her style of course he!)
Love your writings ! Really !

  20. I’ve just read my first book by you, When I’m Gone. It made me laugh. It made me cry. It is very true to life, especially when it comes to grief. I lost my only son to suicide 10 years ago, and I have to tell you, you nailed grief perfectly. So different for each person it effects. BTW, I am a Detroit native. You made just a couple of errors. There is no death penalty in Michigan; hasn’t been since 1847. We were the first state to abolish it. Detroit General Hospital has been called Detroit Receiving Hospital since 1980. More recently, Botsford Hospital became Beaumont Hospital – Farmington Hills in 2014, probably about the time you were writing the book. Looking forward to reading more of your work and if you ever need a Detroit expert, don’t hesitate to ask.

  21. I just finished “Wreckage” . I’m on Spring break and wanted a book to read for the week. Unfortunately it lasted two days! I loved it and I couldn’t put it down. Your characters are so real. They remain with you long after finishing the books. I also read “When I’m Gone” a fews ago, which I thought was fantastic. At first I didn’t know if I wanted to read about a mother leaving her family behind, but the story lines are so engaging I read long into the night, sometimes tearing up, other times smiling wide. Can’t wait to read the next two books.
Emily, I love that you found another life after teaching. You’ve definitely found your talent. I’d like to know if you Skype classrooms to talk about Writing.
Thank you for your awesome books. Keep them coming!

  22. I just finished Working Fire and I loved it. Will there be a sequel? Looking forward to reading The Waiting Room.

  23. Emily,
